Doula Services

Birthroot Doula Services

Your birth doula will provide emotional support, physical comfort as needed, and communication with the hospital or birth center staff as needed. We can offer you and your partner perspective and reassurance, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, positioning, massage and other techniques.

We provide 3 prenatal visits, continued support throughout your labor and birth, and 2 postpartum visits. It is an honor to support you in creating the best birthing possible in the hospital or birthing center environment.

Your postpartum doula will work in your home after your birth, assisting with breastfeeding, massage, cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, newborn care, and childcare. It is important to have the support you need after your birth to be able to rest, heal and bond with your baby.

Birthroot Midwifery introduces Postpartum Doula Services for all families!

I am happy to announce that postpartum doula care is now included in the fee for all midwifery clients. Friend, client and colleague Michelle Broaddus will support women and families for three days at three hours per day in the immediate postpartum time. With her skills she will support you to snuggle with your newborn baby, bond as a family, and heal from pregnancy and birth. She will structure the care you receive around the specific needs your family has. She is also available for additional hours at a fee should the need or desire arise.

Michelle Broaddus is a dedicated mother, gardener, Certified Massage Therapist, Doula, Maya Abdominal Massage practitioner, and Holistic Healer. Michelle especially feels called to work with women, infants and children. Since the birth of her first child eight years ago, she has realized the importance of quality postpartum care. Since the birth of her second child this spring, she has been re-inspired, with the help of her infant son, to work with women and infants during this delicate time after birth.

Michelle graduated from AIH Massage Therapy School in the fall of 2006 with a 550 credit hour certification. In addition, she has been training diligently with Dr. Rosita Arvigo, founder of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage, since 2005 and completing her certification training in October of 2007. Michelle has also been training with DONA (Doulas of North America) for certification as a Birth Doula since the winter of 2006. As an Herbalist she completed Rosemary Gladstar's correspondence course The Science and Art of Herbalism in 2004. In 2005 she completed a full time 6 month work/study internship on Blessed Maine Organic Herb Farm and School for Holistic Healing. Michelle has been and continues to be a dedicated student of the Healing Arts.

Michelle is motivated to reach out to her community as a Doula. She is a skilled massage therapist who loves to work with pregnant and postpartum women. As a mother herself, she deeply understands the complex emotions and physical strains that women experience during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Michelle is clear in her intention to encourage women in their process and empower women through this sacred rite of passage.
